New Orleans vaccine-eligible residents can register to get on The City of New Orleans’ wait list
New Orleans residents 65 or older, or otherwise eligible to get the vaccine, can now register to be put on a wait list. Residents can call 311 or go to ready.nola.gov/getvaccine.
Included in that list of Louisianans eligible for vaccinations are:
- Persons 65 or older
- Health care workers
- Nursing home and long-term care residents and staff
- Dialysis providers and patients
- Law enforcement and other first responders
- Some elections staff ahead of March and April elections
- State and local emergency operations staff
New Orleans seniors age 70 or older have the opportunity to get vaccinated at the Central City Senior Center this Friday and Saturday by registering by phone or online, but if all appointment slots are filled, they will be added to the waitlist.
As additional allotments of vaccine are provided by the Louisiana Department of Health to the New Orleans Health Department and its partners in coming weeks, more appointments will be available in the online registration system and via the 311 call center, according to a NOLA Ready news release.
“COVID-19 has had a disproportionate impact and highlighted long standing inequities in the health of many groups in our community. Providing the COVID-19 vaccine to seniors of color, low-income seniors, and those with functional and access needs continues to be a top priority for Mayor (LaToya) Cantrell and the New Orleans Health Department,” said New Orleans Health Department Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno in the release. “Our strategy is in part guided by the community and faith leaders engaged in the Vaccine Equity and Communications Working Group, whom I thank for their continued dedication to New Orleans’ most vulnerable communities.”
