For the first time in years, LSU faculty and staff members will receive a merit pool raise of 3 percent.

Staff raises for college and universities were worked into the budget that the Louisiana Legislature passed earlier this month.

Outgoing LSU President Tom Galligan said in a letter to the LSU faculty and staff he hopes the pay raises will be “an annual occurrence because you deserve it.”

“I speak for the LSU Board of Supervisors and the entire university administration when I say thank you for your continued devotion to LSU and our students,” he wrote to the university faculty and staff. “We appreciate you and we wish you the very best as we enter the new fiscal year and continue to plan for our fall semester.”

The effective date of the pay raise will be July 1 staff and hourly employees and August 15 for “employees paid on an academic year basis,” according to the letter.
