Jeff Landry endorses Republicans for remaining statewide races in runoff election
Republican Attorney General and Gov.-elect Jeff Landry Monday endorsed the three GOP candidates running for statewide office against Democrats in the Nov. 18 runoff election. SUPPORT NEWS YOU TRUST.
Landry has officially gotten behind Liz Murrill for attorney general, Nancy Landry for secretary of state and John Fleming for state treasurer. Jeff and Nancy Landry are not related to one another.
“I encourage Louisiana voters to support Nancy Landry for Secretary of State, Liz Murrill for Attorney General, and John Fleming for Treasurer so we can push the reforms I spoke about during my race for Governor,” said Jeff Landry in a press release sent Monday morning. “Having a team ready and able to support our goals is important.”
The three Republicans all have Democratic opponents. Murrill faces attorney Lindsey Cheek; Nancy Landry faces attorney and accountant Gwen Collins-Greenup; and Fleming faces financial adviser Dustin Granger.
Turnout is expected to be lower than normal for the runoff election because the governor’s race is no longer at the top of the ticket. Low turnout can make the outcome of elections unpredictable, and Jeff Landry is likely pushing these endorsements as a way to ensure his voters head to the polls in November. While Landry had not technically endorsed Murrill prior to the primary election, their campaigns have been closely aligned for months. The two have worked together in the attorney general’s office for years and they share some of the same political consultants. Earlier in the race, all of Murrill’s top campaign donors were also major donors to Landry.
