Louisiana’s Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne and his top deputy, Barbara Goodson, have won awards for their decades of work in government.
The Council for A Better Louisiana (CABL) has named Dardenne the recipient of its 2022 Robert B. Hamm Award for distinguished public service. The award recognizes people associated with CABL’s priorities who have made a “significant contribution to the betterment of the state or their community,” according to a press release from the organization.
Prior to joining Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration, Dardenne served as lieutenant governor and secretary of state. He was also a state senator for 15 years and a member of the Baton Rouge Metro Council for three years.
Dardenne has spent his entire career fighting for good fiscal policy, ethics reform and support for education, according to CABL. He will receive his award Dec. 14 at CABL’s annual meeting in Baton Rouge.
Goodson is being honored as one of the 2022 Trailblazing Women in Public Finance by The Bond Buyer, a national publication that tracks government financing.
She is in her second stint as a deputy commissioner of administration and has worked for 48 years in government. Previously, Goodson was deputy director of the state Bond Commission, state economist for the Office of Planning and Budget and deputy commissioner of finance and administration for the Board of Regents.
For 10 years, Goodson has also served on the Public Retirement Systems’ Actuarial Committee, which is the financial adviser for Louisiana’s 13 public retirement systems.
She will receive her award Dec. 6 in New York City. During the trip, Goodson will also meet with credit rating agencies to discuss Louisiana.
